Along the coast, the Mediterranean reflects and refracts the sun's rays, making for sharp, distinct colours. Inland, the hues are more subtle: the red roof tiles and blue skies are softened by an infinite variety of greens and by the looming presence of limestone hills, often wrapped in a gentle haze.
